Power and Energy of Words ...

Do you ever stop and think about the power and energy of words? We read them, hear them, speak them, and remember them all the time. What about the consequences or aftermath of the words you speak? Do the lingering stains of those words ever cross your mind? Do you ever notice how words you hear make you feel, how they stick in your tissues and mind for years or decades, how they can tear you down or raise you up? Stop and truly notice the energy of people in a room, what do they tend to talk about or go to the most? Begin to notice how people react to other’s words, how people use words, to hurt, uplift, educate, inspire, heal, or to gain attention!

Of course, this is nothing new, words have power. Nations have been torn down and rebuilt by the power of words. Families, relationships, and careers have flourished and have been shattered by the power of words. They are either causing conflict or resolving issues, hurting and tearing someone down, or empowering them and helping them out of the trenches, feeding someone’s ego or feeding someone’s heart. We all struggle with this at times, whether we are the giver of words, or are on the receiving end of them … we could all make drastic changes in our lives if we began to pay attention to the pattern of words in our life.

We are in the midst of a powerful time in human history! We are shedding old layers of fear and releasing that which no longer works for us. In this, we are studying so much more about energy and interaction. Brene Brown is a leader in human interaction, and she has amazing insights into vulnerability and our ability to connect with others. Here is a link to her TED Talk

Brené Brown: The power of vulnerability | Talk Video | TED

She’s standing in the forefront of human connections. She discusses how Neurobiologically we are hardwired for connection with others. The truth is, with the words we use, we are either facilitating and nurturing that connection, or we are denaturing and causing distance from that connection.

I will leave you some thoughts to help you consider the power and energy of your words! First, a Sufi saying to help us think before we speak …

Before you speak, let your words pass through three gates.
At the first gate, ask yourself, ‘Is it true?’
At the second ask, ‘Is it necessary?’
At the third gate ask ‘Is it kind?~ Sufi Saying

Finally, I’ll close with powerful words from Maya Angelou, who knew very well, words ARE things and DO matter! Be a facilitator of connection with your words and witness the Universe delivering that love and energy right to your doorstep!

Love and Light,

Tanya

“Words are things. You must be careful, careful about calling people out of their names, using racial pejoratives and sexual pejoratives and all that ignorance. Don’t do that. Some day we’ll be able to measure the power of words. I think they are things. They get on the walls. They get in your wallpaper. They get in your rugs, in your upholstery, and your clothes, and finally into you.” – Maya Angelou
